Have you neglected to treat that window over your kitchen sink? The kitchen window tends to be neglected like a step child. You may see an occasional plant or vase hanging around but rarely do homeowner consider giving such a small space makeover.
Because the kitchen window curtain is such a small space its fairly easy give it a quick makeover and it will not even take much of your time. Consider these tips as you embark upon your makeover.
There are only four parts of the window area that you can change; the wall around the window, the adjacent cabinets, the counter and the window itself.
If space allows consider adding decorative pictures that complement the current theme in your kitchen. It’s quite appropriate to add borders or small tiles that don’t overwhelm the space.
The counter area is perfect for adding live or silk plants. Consider adding decorative baskets to house some of the clutter such as sink stoppers or other small items laying on the counter. The goal is to blend in the sink area around the kitchen window with the existing decor. Also, decorative pottery is a nice addition that blends in nicely.
Try frosting the glass or replacing it with stained glass. Home improvement stores sell inexpensive plastic cling that will change the color of your window. These clings are easy to install and can be chosen to more closely match your kitchen decor. Sun catchers can add a nice appeal to any window as well.
Both the window cabinets and window headers can be altered to give your window a new look. Hang small pictures on the side of the cabinets or add fabric to the header to bring out your kitchen curtains.
Lastly don’t forget to update your curtains if it’s been awhile since you’ve changed them. Why not add some beaded trim to the bottom of your curtains or a nice sheer panel would also be nice.
